Internet Business Chat Rooms - Are They Productive?

Internet Business Chat Rooms - Are They Productive?
Are chat rooms passe - or can there be any benefit to them for building an internet business?
Indeed are they helpful or just a way to waste time talking to other colleagues?
For the uninitiated; a chat room provides an online location where you can connect with others of like mind and exchange ideas and information about your business or favourite subject.
There are many types of chat rooms but we will confine this article to just business chat rooms because that is today's focus.
During the last nine months I have had the privelege of working with several different chat rooms and I have seen both productive and unproductive models.
Some are extremely focused - maybe even a little too focused - so that if you are technically challenged, as many of my generation are; then you hesitate to ask "stupid questions" and stop the flow of more intelligent data coming forth over the airwaves. This of course can be quite counterproductive as you then can feel quite let down about the fact that you don't know how to do all the complecated stuff that others seem to be turning out with ease. This type of group could even ignore you completely and just keep chatting to one another as if you didn't even exist. In reality you may or may not come out of a session with the information that you were seeking originally. However by following the conversation, you may also learn something of value. This kind of group certainly has its place and is valuable to some groups.
On the other end of the scale, there are business groups that act more like social groups. In this kind of group there is much discussion about where they went for dinner last night - what the kids got up to this morning - and incidentally a little business thrown in. All very friendly but a little off putting if you have a question to ask about where to get the information about the upcoming webinar.
The most productive kind of group is the one that is there just to help one another. This doesn't mean that you can never mention anything personal. Sometimes you may have to excuse yourself because a child is crying or someone comes to the front door - but the focus of the group is more to make sure that everyone knows what to do and how to grow their business. It means that there is usually someone around who can give you a hand if you need it. By default this usually means that when you are new to the group you ask a lot of questions but as you learn the ropes then the role is reversed and you answer a lot of questions. You can also help one another by reviewing one another’s work if that is what is needed.
Of course a chat room needs to be active to be valuable. While I was busy sleeping on the other side of the world: I notice that 655 entries were made in the chat room that I am part of. I can tell you from experience that there is value in that chat room.
I think it all comes back to the number one priority in network marketing today. You don't just offer value as a bait to get people into your business, you continue to offer value as part of your daily business. In conclusion I would say that an Internet Business Chat Room could be a great help to any business provided that it operates under appropriate guidelines.
